Often slim or athletic women who have had children will have this condition. During the operation, the abdominal muscles will be repaired, and the excess skin and fat removed.

If the scars are in the area of skin to be removed, they will also be removed. The surgeon discusses these options during consultation.

Patients who have been obese and then lose weight, frequently have a large apron of skin and fat, and this is seen in men and women alike. In this case, the patient is a candidate for liposuction. While some liposuction is done in almost all abdominoplasty procedures, the big question is whether liposuction alone can solve the problem. There is also a mini abdominoplasty option. However, only a consultation and examination can provide that answer.

Whilst vigorous activities are limited for 6 weeks, many patients can return to work within 10-14 days.

From $11,000 + hospital & anaesthetic; some Medicare rebate may apply.
